Time was that Everything rotated around the Earth. The Earth was the center of the Universe. Ptolemy
Time went on and then the Earth rotated around the Sun which was the center of the Universe. Copernicus

Which leads us to Mr. Stephen Hawking who has exercised his free will to declare .....
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist,"
Hawking's notions of "gravity" and "nothing" are already old-fashioned as we shall all soon see.
There is no "Nothing" there is only "Something", A WHOLE LOT OF SOMETHING. Dark energy or matter makes up most of the Universe.
We come from something. Everything comes from something.
Of course there is a "book" to sell....

Dark energy theorist Mario Livio of the Space Telescope Science Institute says, "the fact that most of the energy in the universe is in a completely unknown form is both exciting and embarrassing. "You know 70% of the surface of the Earth is covered with water," he said. Our ignorance of what dark energy is "would be the equivalent that we had no clue what water was".
